An Adventure in Guangzhou
I landed in China at 5:30am. Speaking none of the language and not having any plans meant my day started off fairly slowly.
I spent an egregious amount of time figuring out how to install an eSIM, partially due to lack of preparedness but more so due to not being able to access my email due to firewall restrictions.
Eventually having it sorted I made my way to the airline staff who helped me get to my complimentary hotel. I caught a shuttle bus there, charged my devices a little, ate some breakfast and caught a DiDi into town.
I walked around Beijing Road for a while, looking for places to eat. Although it was definitely too early, I eventually stumbled upon a Cheung Fun spot that looked lovely. I headed up to the counter, and ordered something Google translated as duck rice noodle. It had shiitake mushrooms, some greens and a meat that I assume was duck in a form I had never seen before.
They had milk corn at the hotel breakfast, it was pretty good
Saw some lovely buildings on my drive into town
Saw a minion
My noodles! They were awesomeAfter a successful first meal I went for a little walk, having no plans whatsoever. I found a 7/11 and bought some snacks, and wandered down to the Pearl river! It was quite a standard river, a bit murky, but nice enough. I saw some people fishing but didn’t see any catches.
I caught a Didi to the other side of town, walked around a park and had a nice rest at the lake there, before deciding I should try catch a train. I caught one to Canton tower to sus it out and wow what a massive structure that is.
Some meat snack I found. Not half bad
What a lake! In the centre there is where I sat for a while
Here I am at the lake
And here’s canton tower and II realised after being there for about 3 minutes that there wasn’t much going on in that area, so I caught another train back a stop to a massive shopping centre complex.
It had 4 different shopping centres, one for each season, and I started in the spring one. Feeling a bit peckish I decided to look for a feed, and headed over to spring to test my luck. I stumbled upon a lovely rice bowl spot with and ordered a bowl with bbq pork and roasted goose. It was absolutely divine. It also came with some jelly thing which was gas.
I decided I’d had enough walking and went back to the hotel for some rest before hopefully an adventurous night.
Lunch :)
Desert from lunch
My can didn’t open right
