Our (first) time in Bishkek
We arrived in Bishkek at around 9:45, but didn’t manage to find a taxi from the airport until around 11, meaning we only got to the hotel just before midnight. We had a very cheap, but quite delicious feed: I had a burger-ish thing and the others got kebabs.
After a few beers and a good night’s rest we had a day in Bishkek to explore the town before we headed down to Cholpon Ata. We went out to a local cafe for breakfast and had some great pastries before walking around and checking out the town.
After a nice walk we went back to the hotel and prepared for the opening ceremony of the World Nomad Games.
The journey to get to the opening ceremony was quite long, and included the group splitting up, many roadblocks for the busses and doing some off-roading in the bus.
However we did manage to get there in the end, and it was very worthwhile. We saw some crazy dancing and singing, before a very long intermission. After the intermission there was a surprise appearance by some famous world leaders who were in town for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit. This included Vladimir Putin which we very much did not expect, and was quite crazy to see.
After the opening ceremony we headed home and had an early night before a big journey early the next morning.
